The Other Side
I grew up
in an Appalachian town
with ridges and valleys
all around.
Where fog blankets
winding roads
that I can barely see.
With waving flags and
signs that read,
'don't tread on me.'
Stars
light up the dark sky
and Bars
around your heart.
They're keeping us together
and tearing everything apart.
I claim my heritage
from here and across
the great big sea
and no one's gonna
draw a line
separating me.
I'm looking to the other side.
The river's on the other side.
I'm looking to the other side
to see.
in an Appalachian town
with ridges and valleys
all around.
Where fog blankets
winding roads
that I can barely see.
With waving flags and
signs that read,
'don't tread on me.'
Stars
